Landscapers Love Them!The Spiraea ‘Gold Flame’, Spiraea x bumalda, is a dense, upright, compact, mounded deciduous shrub which typically grows to 2-4′ tall, with a similar spread. The narrow leaves emerge in spring in shades of copper, rust, and yellow, turning to a medium green during summer, and then becoming a brilliant flame color in the fall.Lovely pink flowers bloom profusely in small corymbs and cover the arching stems of this plant in late spring which attracts butterflies. The flowers and leaves all appear on the same side of the arching branches!It has no serious insect or disease problems, and is effective in borders, foundation plantings or hedges. ‘Goldflame’ is easily grown in average, medium wet, well-drained soil in full sun to part shade.  Tolerates a wide range of soils and is easy to grow.  This spirea should be pruned in late winter to early spring. The changing color of this spirea adds variety at a time when many plants are losing their luster in the garden.   ‘Goldflame’ has been around long enough so its traits are well known and is often used by landscapers* Reblooming Pink Flowers* Colorful Foliage* Attracts Butterflies.
